How to Get a Luxury Hotel for a Budget Price – MUST TRY!
Luscious 5 star hotels are not always easy to attain on a student loan budget – but the reality is possible with this travel hack! Read this article to learn how to get the best hotel deal on a shoestring budget.
I’ll show you how to get a 4 or 5-star hotel for less than a 3-star hotel at the same price in this tutorial!
For Christmas, we received some tickets to see a show in Salt Lake City.
I don’t know about you, but I like nice hotels and would prefer to save money wherever possible!
So how do you combine the two and still get something great?
Well, in the past, we would often find “good deals” on regular travel sites such as Expedia.
Now nothing against Expedia, but they don’t have a handy Name Your Price tool like Priceline does.
So to get the hotel I want, I use Priceline’s Name Your Own Price Tool in conjunction with The Bidding Travelers auto-bid Chrome Extension tool.
This makes it easy to get a good deal on an expensive hotel!
Wait, what’s The Bidding Travelers Chrome Extension?
It’s a nifty extension that you manually install (its super easy – I’ll show you). You simply put in your information into the Priceline Name Your Price tool, how much you are willing to pay, and the extension runs automatically to bid on the different hotels until you either win or lose.
Once a bid is accepted, you’re -cha-ching!- on your way to winning on your vacay! The instructions below show you step by step how to get the best hotel deal for your next vacation or business trip!
Here’s how it works:
- Choose your location: enter the location you’re going to, and the check-in, check-out dates. Select the “Just Priceline Bidding” button.
- Choose your hotel rating
- Decide on your bidding strategy: enter the minimum and maximum amount you’re willing to spend
- Decide on a bidding strategy
- Let the system bid for you
- If you win, you’re done! If you lost, you can wait 24 hours to bid again, or you can try again right away with a different email address and name.
Before you run out and do this, please keep in mind that the Priceline Name Your Price Tool only can guarantee that you will get one bed, and doesn’t guarantee that you will get a room with two beds, or that they will even cover that. When going through the Budget Traveler site, be sure to read everything on the site.
Step-by-Step How to Get a Luxury Hotel On A Budget:
I’ll walk you through how I did this and saved 32% on a 4-star hotel!
First, head on over to Bidding Traveler website
Step 1: Choose your location
Since our show is being shown at the Vivint Event Center, we want to choose a hotel that is close to that. So we went ahead and selected the two areas closest to that event center.
Step 2: Choose your hotel rating
I’ll admit, I’m kind of a princess so I like to choose 4 stars and up 😊 (who would willingly choose 2-star ratings if you knew you could get better for the same price?!)
Step 3: Choose a bidding strategy
First, view the recommended lowball offer that the site mentions.
For my example, it’s recommending that I give a lowball offer of $61.
Next, we choose the highest offer that we are willing to pay.
The site recommends that I put a max of $73 based off of previously accepted and rejected offers.
You can even see the section on the right that shows you the recently rejected and accepted bids.
Note that some of these are outdated as this is not a super popular site, and some of these offers may have been rejected due to the time of year or particular events that are going on in that location.
After putting in your information, select “continue with automatic bidding”.
You can choose to select “Continue with manual bidding” if you don’t want to install the Chrome extension. If you DO want to do automatic bidding, you will install the Chrome extension and it will do all the work for you. I recommend doing the automatic bidding!
Step 4: Confirm Information
On the next page, you will need to confirm that this is exactly when you’d like to stay and make sure everything is just as you want it.
If you are not familiar with the Priceline tool, you will want to click on the “read this” page when you see this section.:
It will also show you the exact dollar amounts that will be charged depending on which offer is accepted.
Make sure to read everything on this page for your own information.
Accept the terms, and click Start AutoBid Now!
Installing the Bidding Traveler Autobid Chrome Extension
You’ll be shown this image here, which tells you to download the extension and how to install it properly.
Here’s how to install the Chrome extension in 15 seconds!
After installing the extension, you just need to hit refresh on the page!
On the last step, you will need to enter your name and billing information into the Priceline page. This is safe to do. Once completed, select “Buy My Hotel Now”.
And now we play the waiting game…
Isn’t this exciting?! I once tried to do this for a Las Vegas trip, but because we had another friend coming, we couldn’t trust that we would get a room with two beds. It’s like gambling in Vegas without the money loss!
Did I win?
Now that our bidding is complete, you will get a page that says your offer was accepted, or you will get a page that says your highest offer wasn’t high enough and gives you some options.
Priceline’s terms are that you can re-bid within 24 hours if you didn’t win, or you can simply try it under another traveling participants name and email (as they have to be with you when you check in).
If you know what the hotel countered at, you can simply do a new bid with a new name and email, and try it again.
Sometimes you may need to do it twice..one for the money, two for the show!
For my second time, I put my final offer as the counteroffer that the hotel countered at.
Since I know I can get a cheaper price elsewhere, this will be my final offer if it doesn’t work.
This time, my bid was accepted!
My highest bid threshold was $89 as that was the counteroffer on my first bid, by the hotel. My lowest bid threshold I chose was $71 I believe.
It wasn’t the highest I was willing to go, so this is a pretty good deal to me – I’ll take it!
How I saved money using the Pricelines Name Your Own Price tool with Bidding Traveler!
The final offer that was accepted ended up being $81/night for a 4-star hotel in downtown Salt Lake City.
I wanted to see how much I really saved, so I went to the hotels’ website and checked their booking price for the night of my stay.
The “Lowest Available Rate” for my stay on that night would have been $120 for the least expensive room, but instead, I got it for $81!
That is a savings of $39, but I have seen savings that are even more!
