The Triple Threat Pinterest Strategy That Grew My Pinterest Following by 682% in 6 Months!
What’s the best way to grow your new business Pinterest account quickly as a new blogger? I talk about how I did just that in this post, which outlines the three killer Pinterest strategies I used to grow super fast!
Just how fast are we talking? I went from:
60 followers in June 2018 to 680 followers in December 2018!
and from 3.8k monthly viewers in June 2018 to 650k in December of 2018.
An increase and growth of over 1000%!
I’ve had a Pinterest account since it launched back in 2010, and when I started looking for Pinterest strategies for my business, I had no idea that it had turned into the amazing marketing system that it is today!
So when I started my blog and started using Pinterest for business, my brand new account for The Success Mountain started at zero. Zero followers, zero pins, zero boards – everything from scratch.
And since June 2018 to January 2019, I’ve gone from 0 followers to 682 followers using three core strategies that I believe were due to my success!
I’ve also gone from less than a thousand monthly viewers in June 2018 to over 650,000 monthly viewers in December 2018!
757 monthly viewers to 693,344 in 6 months? That’s crazy!
There’s so many ‘guru’s out there saying they know the secret algorithm strategy to crack the Pinterest code – but the thing is, it’s not a one size fits all.
So since things change, and there are so many variables – I wanted to do as much as possible when I started out. I was willing to invest some money into learning as much as I could to master the platform, but I didn’t want to spend too much on a big Pinterest course.
I decided to do a deep dive on Pinterest, and when I did my deep dive, I watched Youtube videos, I paid attention in Facebook groups, I listened to the Simple Pin Podcast, and I purchased a couple of ebooks.
My biggest success was when I purchased those ebooks. Although everything else was great, I wasn’t getting the step-by-step that I wanted to grow my account super quickly.
These books definitely did the trick and changed everything for me.

My Triple Threat Pinterest Strategy That Grew My Blog from 3k to 113k monthly viewers in 1 month!
And now it’s at 685k six months later! I even had my Pinterest account suspended wrongfully, and once I got it unsuspended, it shot right back up to where it would have grown to be if it hadn’t have been suspended!
So what got me to this point? Let’s read about my three killer strategies!
Killer Pinterest Strategy #1 – Pinteresting Strategies
I first heard of Carly’s book as a new blogger, pretty much when I started learning about Pinterest itself. Her book is so amazingly helpful, and easy to consume. While most online courses you purchase will be “I will show you how to do this,” Carly’s teaching method is “I did an experiment and this is what happened,” which is so insightful – not to mention it keeps it interesting!
This is much closer to my learning style.
You know those courses where you watch or read the videos and you’re just like “ugh, hurry it up already” and you can’t wait to get to the good parts?
Carly’s book is TOTALLY not like that. I’m a super fast learner and I don’t want to know the basics like how to use boards.
I want to learn the nitty-gritty strategies!
If you’re the same, this book is literally calling for you. And now, she even has it planned out in a course, so you can watch videos and everything!
For the cost of $47.00, it’s the cheapest course, and the most uniquely informative course I’ve bought for my blog. Even Elite Blog Academy is more of an overview course, while Carly’s book is straight up DATA!
If you thrive on numbers and unique technical strategies, I think you’ll like it. Really!
Killer Pinterest Strategy #2 – Pinterest Launch Plan
When I took a course called Elite Blog Academy, a course that has frankly changed my life, I was able to learn about and follow many other successful bloggers and use their personal successes to pave a path to where I’m going.
So when one of the successful bloggers, Jennifer Maker from JenniferMaker.Com wrote a book on her own unique Pinterest strategies, building ON TOP OF Carly’s own strategies – I knew I had to get it!
Jennifer did her own personal experiment with a brand new secret Pinterest account to test out her theories – with high success!
She called it the Great Pinterest Experiment and took a brand new blog to 773 sessions per day in under ONE MONTH (with proof!)
She even includes a Google sheet to track progress, pins, launch plans for your pins and group boards, and training videos!
One of my favorite tricks with her book was that she launches brand new pins. Most bloggers tell you that you have to do new pins every once in a while – Jennifer lays out an entire launch plan for them. It’s pretty sweet.
If you want more tips like that, I highly recommend her book!
It also comes with three training videos that shows you how she speeds up her Tailwind strategy for her boards – golden information if you’re wanting to automate your Pinterest strategy.
I purchased this book for $27 and she wrote the book to work directly with Carly’s book, Pinteresting Strategies.
Why do you need both Pinteresting Strategies and the Pinterest Launch Plan?
Each of these bloggers talks about a variety of different methods they’ve used to determine or eliminate the ‘common’ strategies people talk about all the time.
And then they throw awesome curveballs by throwing in information you’ve never heard anywhere – the techniques they used to help them grow their accounts very quickly.
While Carly has determined particular techniques that apply to all accounts based on her experiments, Jennifer decided to build off of Carly’s book rather than duplicate it – so she used some of Carly’s techniques, but did her own experiments and used different techniques. It’s built upon, rather than competing with it.
What you’ll learn from both ebooks:
*How to get your Pinterest account started from scratch
*Step by step strategies to follow
*Myths of the Pinterest platform and what strategies are wasting your time
*What makes a great pin, a bad pin, and viral pins
*Why images are incredibly important (not just pin design!)
*How to use group boards properly
*Manual pinning strategies
*Automatic pinning strategies using Tailwind
*Schedules and spreadsheets to follow and track progress
*How to do Pinterest SEO/keywords and Pinterest marketing for businesses
*Checklists and action steps to follow to exactly increase your traffic
You’ll go from absolute beginner to total professional after these ebooks – and dare I say, you don’t need any other course for Pinterest, from start to finish to be successful on Pinterest marketing your blog and online shop.
For the price of one dinner out to eat, you can get two ebooks that cost less than it costs for one Pinterest course from most bloggers out there! And you won’t get nearly as much information. I’ve seen some of those Pinterest courses – some of them are just skimming the top. These ebooks dive deep!
Killer Pinterest Strategy #3 – Tailwind App
I know, I know, everyone talks about Tailwind.
At some point after you hear it so many times, you go “huh, is it really true or is it just someone promoting it again?” and you wonder if it’s really worth it.
While there is a limited free version you can use to test out the software up to 100 pins, I can tell you it is well worth the $9.99/month cost to have it.
I once took a very cheap course about Pinterest where this blogger said she couldn’t afford Tailwind, so she scheduled an alarm on her phone to go off every 30 minutes to pin manually a few pins – so that option is available to you if you’d prefer.
However – that’s not my jam. That’s like saying you are too cheap to focus on higher ROI projects like writing your blog posts, instead.
It just doesn’t make sense.
Plus, who is available every 30 minutes at all times of the day? No thanks!
Automation is key to growing your business – and let’s face it, you’re growing a business, you will need to spend some money in order to get it going and for it to truly be a business, right?
So you know it’s important to get Tailwind, PLUS you can use it for Instagram and their awesome Tribes!
And using these two ebook strategies from two of my favorite bloggers, you’re all set to start using their methods!
Some users talk about manual pinning versus automated pinning, and I can say I’ve used a mix of both, but the majority of my pins are automated. Sometimes I will hop on during the day and pin a few things here or there – and I think it’s important to do, but it’s only when I have the time!
I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to pin – automated versus manual – it’s just important to engage, and put your content out there.
That’s the bottom line, right?!
So what was the secret to my success?
It was a mix of using those two ebooks from successful bloggers that I personally know from my Elite Blog Academy course group, plus a subscription to Tailwind (helloooo automation!), and a lot of trial and error!
If you’ve started from a completely blank Pinterest account, you know you have a long ways to go – and getting from zero to 1000 (followers, traffic, speed, whathaveyou) is going to take time.
In fact, it can take 6ish months – 1 year, depending on the variety of actions you take!
Or maybe you’ve already been pinning for a while, and you’re disappointed that your pinning strategy isn’t growing your account as quickly as you’d like?
Finding the recipe may take some time:
What are the right pin designs to use?
What images do you use?
How do you find the right keywords?
What pinning strategy does Pinterest look for?
How can you get more pins in front of more viewers?
And most importantly, how can you get more traffic to your website using Pinterest?
My triple threat Pinterest strategy answered all of these questions for me, and I was happy to see such success with these three strategies.
I was relieved that I could see something that was finally working for me and my account.
If you’re a blogger, we all know the end game is getting traffic, and we play the Pinterest game to get that traffic.
It is a long road, and by no means a get rich quick scheme.
So if we can speed up that process by using the tools at our disposal – we should take the opportunity!
I’m really glad I did, and I love that I am getting advice from some of the most successful bloggers in the field at the moment – I know I can trust them, and I’m glad I didn’t buy any other course!
